Four individuals suspected of being part of a notorious robbery gang were shot and killed during a dramatic exchange of gunfire with police along the Bekwai-Fomena Highway in the Ashanti Region.

According to reports, the suspects had mounted a roadblock in an attempt to ambush and rob travelers moving between Bekwai and Fomena. Their operation, however, was swiftly interrupted after police received distress calls from affected commuters.

Law enforcement officers responded promptly, engaging the armed robbers in a fierce shootout. Four of the suspects were fatally wounded during the confrontation, while two others—also believed to have been injured—fled into a nearby bush.

A manhunt is currently underway to locate and apprehend the escaped suspects.

The police have launched a full investigation to determine the identities of the deceased and to uncover further details surrounding the attempted robbery.

Residents in the area, who have long been plagued by a surge in highway robberies, expressed relief and praised the police for their quick response.

The Ashanti South Police Command has confirmed the incident and announced that additional details will be provided at a press conference scheduled for Monday, April 14.
