The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has officially launched the Lorry Terminal Project, a new initiative aimed at making licensing services more accessible to commercial drivers and other road users across Ghana.

This project allows drivers to access essential DVLA services directly at major lorry terminals, eliminating the need to travel to DVLA offices. Among the services offered are:

  • Application for new driver’s licences
  • Licence renewals
  • Replacement of lost or expired licences
  • Conversion of foreign licences
  • Issuance of international driving permits
  • Licence upgrades

According to DVLA Chief Executive Officer, Julius Neequaye Kotey, the initiative is part of a broader effort to streamline service delivery and improve efficiency in the transport sector.

“We are here to launch the DVLA Lorry Terminal Project to ensure that everyone who qualifies to drive can obtain the necessary certification,” Mr. Kotey said. “Licences must be renewed two years after issuance, again after another two years, and replaced one year after the second renewal. All these steps include mandatory eye examinations to ensure drivers meet vision standards.”

To support this, the DVLA is partnering with the Ghana Optometric Association to provide on-site eye tests at terminal locations.

Mr. Kotey encouraged commercial drivers to take full advantage of the program to stay compliant.

“This project is designed with you in mind, though it’s open to the general public as well,” he added.

Drivers from the GPRTU Circle Kaneshie Station welcomed the move, saying it will save them time, reduce transportation costs, and help them maintain up-to-date documentation.
