Accra, Ghana – Minister-Designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has advocated for a review of the District Assemblies Act to empower local authorities to spearhead community-specific tourism initiatives.
During her vetting by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee, Madam Gomashie emphasized the significant untapped potential for tourism development at the district level.
She stressed the need to decentralize decision-making and empower local communities to develop and implement tourism strategies tailored to their specific needs and resources.
“The District Assemblies Act should be reviewed, and as a lawyer, I’ll need your help on that,” she stated, underscoring her commitment to working with Parliament to amend the Act.
Madam Gomashie also highlighted the importance of revitalizing the Centers for National Culture, viewing them as crucial hubs for nurturing young talent and showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
She emphasized the potential of tourism to create employment opportunities for young people, describing it as a source of “low-hanging fruits” for those with talent and creativity.
“Tourism is a vibrant contributor to national development, and I am committed to ensuring it becomes a key driver of growth,” she noted.
