The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has issued an official statement addressing concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the release of the revised Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
The opposition NDC had earlier insisted that the EC promised to make the updated PVR available to political parties within a week after an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.
In response, the EC clarified the situation, citing that during the televised IPAC meeting, the chairperson of the EC had stated that the updated version of the 2024 provisional voters register would be made available to political parties within two weeks or earlier.
The Commission emphasised that at no point did the chairperson Jean Mensa promise that the register would be released within a week, as suggested by the NDC.
The EC reassured political stakeholders that the revised PVR will indeed be available within the stipulated two-week period. To avoid any further misunderstandings, the EC has provided an unedited video of the closing remarks made by the Chairperson during the IPAC meeting, which further confirms the official timeline.
The statement, signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations, concluded by affirming the Commission’s commitment to ensuring transparency and the timely release of the updated voters register.
This clarification aims to put to rest any confusion regarding the availability of the updated PVR, ahead of the 2024 general elections.
