Ahead of the December 7 general elections, visually impaired voters in the Ashanti region have participated in training on the Tactile Jacket voting method.

The ability to vote privately and independently is crucial for all voters, yet individuals with visual impairments often face significant challenges in achieving this.

The training was held at the Asokore Mampong District Office of the Electoral Commission over the weekend.

Participants expressed gratitude for the initiative, with Isaac Obeng, a participant, commending the EC for facilitating their ability to keep their ballots confidential.

Obeng shared, “To vote for the third candidate, you count down from the top two. So you go one, two, three, then find the box on your right.”

These training sessions aim to equip visually impaired voters with the necessary skills for election day, promoting their independence in the voting process.

The Electoral Commission’s efforts are a commendable move towards making elections more inclusive for all citizens.
