The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced a scheduled nationwide power interruption on Sunday, July 13, due to maintenance works by gas suppliers, ENI.

The temporary shutdown of gas valves is aimed at increasing gas output through rehabilitation works.

According to Mr. Jinapor, the maintenance will cause a short-term halt in gas supply, resulting in power outages.

However, he assured that the upgrade will significantly benefit the energy sector by boosting gas supply to the national grid.

The Energy Minister emphasized that the decision to temporarily shut down the gas supply was necessary for the greater good of the energy sector.

He also revealed that technical advice had been followed in deciding not to run thermal plants on liquid fuel during the shutdown period to minimize the impact.

Mr. Jinapor assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to minimize the impact of the power interruption.

Additionally, he announced a new oil discovery by ENI and expressed optimism about further investment in Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector by Tullow Oil.

The announcement was made at the ground-breaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the 161kV Anwomaso to Kumasi transmission line, a project expected to address low voltage issues and improve power efficiency in Kumasi and surrounding mining communities.
