The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has made a significant stride in resolving the case of missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), successfully tracing 2,637 containers after an extensive audit.
This latest figure more than doubles the initial estimate reported in March 2025, when only about 1,300 containers were said to be missing—of which just 40 had been recovered at the time.
Speaking in an interview on May 27, 2025, Richmond Rockson, Head of Communications at the Ministry, clarified the discrepancies in previous reports and detailed the steps taken to uncover the truth.
He explained that during the handover period earlier this year, nearly 3,000 ECG containers were flagged as uncleared at the port. However, upon assumption of office, the new Energy Minister was informed that only around 2,500 containers remained outstanding.
“To address these inconsistencies, the Minister ordered a full-scale audit to determine the exact number of missing containers,” Rockson stated.
The investigation concluded that 2,637 containers were involved, with 2,583 confirmed to be in the custody of port authorities.
Rockson emphasized that the audit was crucial in resolving long-standing discrepancies and providing a more accurate account of ECG’s logistics and inventory status.
He also noted that the investigation is still ongoing, suggesting that additional containers could be accounted for as the process continues.
