A 45-year-old farmer, Kwabena Asiedu, has been arrested by the Bibiani District Police for allegedly stabbing his 18-year-old daughter, Susana Asiedu—also known as Maabena—during a heated dispute over her pregnancy.

The incident occurred in Sefwi Tanoso Praso, a community in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality in the Western North Region. Susana, who is currently an apprentice hairdresser, said the altercation began when her father confronted her after learning she was five months pregnant.

According to her account, the confrontation took place while she was visiting a friend. After confirming the pregnancy during the tense exchange, her father allegedly became enraged, grabbed a kitchen knife, and followed her into the friend’s room, where he is accused of attacking her.

Susana lost consciousness after the alleged assault and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital by a community member who witnessed the aftermath. Her condition has since stabilized.

Kwabena Asiedu reportedly fled the scene after the attack but was later apprehended by police. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.

Isaac Kyei Asante, the Unit Committee Member for Sefwi Tanoso Praso, condemned the incident and voiced growing concerns about rising domestic violence in the community.

“This is a deeply troubling case, and unfortunately, it’s not isolated. We need stronger community action and support systems to prevent such tragedies,” he said.

Authorities are urging anyone with further information to assist in the ongoing investigation.
