A suspected gas explosion at the University of Ghana’s Bush Canteen has caused significant damage, destroying several shops and triggering widespread panic.

The incident, which occurred Wednesday evening, sent plumes of smoke billowing into the air as fire engulfed multiple structures within the popular market area.

Eyewitnesses recounted hearing a loud explosion before flames rapidly spread through the canteen’s stalls.

Firefighters and emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze. As of now, no casualties have been confirmed.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the explosion, with preliminary reports indicating a potential gas leak as the source.
