The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the maiden edition of the U-15 Girls Inter-Regional Challenge Cup will be held in June 2024 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The announcement comes in line with the GFA’s commitment to expanding its national team structure with the creation of new age group sides for both boys and girls.
The U-15 Girls Inter-Regional Challenge Cup will act as a scouting ground for national team coaches, allowing them to identify promising players for further development within the new national team structure. This includes U-16, U-18, U-19, and U-21 teams for boys and U-16, U-18, U-19, U-21, and U-23 teams for girls.
The competition follows the success of the existing KGL U-17 Regional Championship for boys. Players participating in the U-15 tournament will be expected to progress through the age groups, receiving year-round training and competing in both local and international fixtures.
This focus on youth development aligns with the GFA’s wider strategy of transforming women’s football in Ghana. By nurturing talent from a young age and creating a clear pathway to the senior national team, the GFA hopes to build a more competitive team across all levels.
