In a significant step towards revitalizing Ghana’s aviation industry, the Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has officially inaugurated a 10-member task force tasked with developing a comprehensive plan for the establishment of a new national airline.
This initiative is geared towards positioning Ghana as a competitive aviation hub within West Africa and strengthening air connectivity across the region.
The newly formed task force will be led by Charles Asare, the former Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, bringing his extensive experience to the forefront of this crucial endeavor.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Nikpe underscored the government’s strong commitment to creating a national carrier that is both sustainable and efficient.
“We have facilities at our national airport, and other airlines are capitalizing on them. It is only fitting that as a nation, we also benefit from these advantages,” Minister Nikpe stated.
He further elaborated on Ghana’s strategic ambitions: “We are the gateway to Africa, and we are actively working to establish ourselves as the aviation hub of Africa. We cannot achieve this without actively participating in that industry. It is for this reason that the President has entrusted this responsibility to you – to ensure that we compete effectively and leverage the facilities we have diligently developed over the years.”
Minister Nikpe outlined the broader governmental vision: “Our vision, both as a government and as the Ministry of Transport, is to make Ghana a transportation hub across all sectors – aviation, maritime, and road. We envision that you will play a vital role in connecting people within the sub-region and with the rest of the world.”
Representing the newly inaugurated task force, Chair Charles Asare pledged the team’s resolute commitment to ensuring the successful realization of the new national airline, signaling a determined effort to achieve the government’s ambitious goals for the aviation sector.
