Recognition of Excellence Across Sectors at Accra Ceremony

The Ghana National Awards 2024 took place at the Accra International Conference Centre, where eight distinguished institutions were honoured for their outstanding contributions to national development and global partnerships. The awards were presented by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of the nation’s commitment to celebrating excellence and inspiring continued progress in various sectors.

1. Ghana Armed Forces

The Ghana Armed Forces received an award, represented by Lt. Gen. Oppong Peprah, Chief of Defence Staff, in recognition of their steadfast dedication to protecting the nation’s borders and ensuring national security. Their service to the country’s peace and sovereignty was duly acknowledged.

2. Ghana Police Service

The Ghana Police Service, represented by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, was recognised for its crucial role in maintaining law and order throughout Ghana. The force’s efforts in upholding peace and stability were celebrated as vital to the nation’s overall safety.

3. Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences

The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences was honoured for its pivotal contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Academy’s provision of real-time data, modelling, and strategic advocacy significantly shaped the national response and helped mitigate the impact of the virus.

4. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The UNDP received recognition for its significant contributions to Ghana’s development. The programme has been instrumental in advancing sustainable development initiatives and fostering international cooperation to tackle pressing global challenges.

5. China-Africa Development Fund

The China-Africa Development Fund was acknowledged for its instrumental role in boosting Ghana’s infrastructure and driving economic growth through strategic investments and partnerships that have helped reshape the nation’s development landscape.

6. International Organisation for Migration (IOM)

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) was honoured for its work in supporting migration management and promoting safe, orderly migration practices in Ghana. Its efforts in enhancing livelihoods and ensuring the welfare of migrants were key to the nation’s social and economic development.

7. Ghana Immigration Service

The Ghana Immigration Service was celebrated for its vital role in managing Ghana’s borders and facilitating legal migration. The Service’s contribution to national security and its role in socio-economic growth were key highlights of their recognition.

8. Ghana Prisons Service

The Ghana Prisons Service was acknowledged for its significant contributions to the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates. Their ongoing efforts to maintain security, promote human dignity, and improve the correctional system were commended at the ceremony.
