The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the tragic lynching of a prison officer in Kasoa over the weekend.
The victim, Gideon Adu Boakye, was stationed at Nsawam Maximum Prison and had been visiting his parents in the Iron City suburb when the incident occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, Boakye was mistakenly identified as a thief, leading to a fatal mob attack. His body was later discovered in a gutter near Hope of Restoration School, days after the incident.
In an interview, Superintendent Adamu Latif Abdul, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, confirmed the incident and expressed the service’s deep sorrow. “We have been informed that one of our officers was tragically lynched in Kasoa,” he said. “The police are currently investigating the matter.”
Abdul added that Boakye had gone out to attend to personal errands when he was attacked.
The Ghana Prisons Service is collaborating with the police to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
