Ghana is actively seeking the support of Tunisia and Burundi in its campaign for the upcoming African Union (AU) Chairmanship, President John Dramani Mahama has revealed.

The President made the remarks while receiving letters of credence from the newly appointed ambassadors of Tunisia, Burundi, Greece, Vietnam, and Jamaica, expressing hope that diplomatic ties with these nations will continue to grow stronger.

“As the current second Vice Chair of the African Union, Ghana is positioning itself to take up the AU Chairmanship when it next rotates to West Africa,” President Mahama stated.

He emphasised the importance of increased coordination between Ghana and Tunisia on multilateral issues, adding:

“We will be reaching out to your presidents because we are interested in the chairmanship. When the time comes, we’ll count on Tunisia’s support.”

President Mahama also highlighted the broader opportunities for collaboration across the continent, noting that Africa’s current developments offer a chance to enhance intra-African economic relations, especially through trade and partnership-building.
