A 39-year-old Ghanaian identified as Adu Boakye has been shot dead in Toronto, Canada.
According to the Toronto Police Service, the incident occurred on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at approximately 3 pm in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area.
It is unclear what led to the cause of the shooting incident. Adu Boakye was shot three times while he was walking near a bus stop, going about his business.
“The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of a Homicide investigation and are seeking the public’s assistance locating a suspect vehicle. Police believe the stolen vehicle involved in today’s shooting homicide was also involved in a shooting that occurred yesterday in the same area,” the Police said in a statement on February 17.
Police reports indicate that the victim, Adu Boakye died at the hospital while receiving treatment after sustaining gunshot wounds.
Adu Boakye recently moved to Canada just three months ago and left behind four children.
Meanwhile, Toronto police have identified the suspect through video canvassing who fled the scene in a stolen black Acura RDX with licence plate CVEN 900.
A press release from the Toronto police described the suspect as male, black, 18-25 years old, with a thin build who wore a black coat, a white hoodie, black pants, black shoes, a black face covering and possibly a white surgical mask when he attacked the Ghanaian.
A vehicle of the suspect which is suspected to have been stolen, a black Acura RDX , was located in Hamilton.
Toronto Police have since asked residents of the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area to be vigilant and report to authorities if they see anything suspicious.
The suspect is yet to be apprehended.
