The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a disappointing 0-2 defeat to Sudan in the second leg of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers on October 15, 2024, in Libya.
In a performance that lacked cohesion, Ghana struggled to link passes and pose any real threat to the Sudanese defense.
Star players such as Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, and Inaki Williams were unable to replicate the attacking flair they had demonstrated in previous matches.
Sudan took full advantage of their opportunities, with Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud Mohammed and Yousif Yagoub scoring the crucial goals to secure the win.
Under the leadership of Ghanaian coach James Kwasi Appiah, Sudan effectively controlled the game and deservedly came out on top.
Following this match, Ghana finds itself in a challenging situation, currently sitting third in Group F with only two points.
Sudan now occupies second place with seven points, while Angola leads the group with nine points, gearing up for their fourth match.
Ghana’s road to qualification is becoming increasingly difficult, having previously drawn 1-1 against Niger, narrowly lost to Angola, and played to a goalless draw against Sudan.
With upcoming matches against Angola and Niger, Ghana’s hopes for advancing to AFCON are quickly dwindling. A loss in either of these games could significantly jeopardize their chances of reaching Morocco.
