The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a strong advisory to the public, warning of more frequent and intense rainfall in the coming days. Residents, particularly those living in flood-prone and low-lying areas, are being urged to take precautionary measures and consider temporary relocation where necessary.

This warning comes on the heels of a recent heavy downpour that triggered flooding in several parts of the Greater Accra Region, including Pantang, Nsawam, Lakeside, and Kasoa.

In a media interview, Felicity Ahafianyo, Head of GMet’s Central Analysis and Forecast Office, stressed that Ghana is only at the beginning of what is expected to be a challenging rainy season.

“Our seasonal forecast indicated not just an increase in rainfall frequency, but also greater intensity. What we’ve seen so far—particularly along the coast and in parts of the Volta Region—is only the start,” she stated.

Ahafianyo cautioned that these adverse weather conditions are likely to persist across the southern sector until the end of the major rainy season. She emphasized the importance of early action to mitigate potential damage, especially in vulnerable communities.

In addition, GMet is calling on the media and local authorities to support the effort by consistently sharing official weather updates to ensure public awareness and safety.
