Accra, Ghana – The Government of Ghana has approved the procurement of essential food items for students in all public senior high schools for a two-week period, from January 20 to February 3, 2025.
This interim measure, communicated through the Ministry of Education, aims to address challenges with the current school feeding program.
Funds have been disbursed to schools based on student enrollment to facilitate the procurement of necessary food items.
Boarding students will receive a daily allowance of GHS 7.50 per day, while day students will receive GHS 3.00 per day.
For purely day schools, Heads of Schools are required to engage local caterers to provide hot meals for students within the approved budget.
Regional Directors have been instructed to ensure that all schools comply with relevant public procurement regulations.
This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of students in public secondary schools.
