The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced the release of GH¢550 million to health facilities for the settlement of outstanding claims.
According to the NHIA, this disbursement follows the recent uncapping of NHIS funds, a move expected to improve the timely payment of claims to healthcare providers.
Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Bampoe, expressed optimism about the future of the scheme, stating that the President has directed the Finance Minister to release all funds accrued to the National Health Insurance Scheme within 30 days.
“We expect to receive funds more regularly, so we can, in turn, pay service providers promptly,” Dr. Bampoe said.
In a related development, the NHIA is set to expand its free dialysis programme to enhance access to life-saving treatment for kidney patients across Ghana. The initiative includes the procurement of additional dialysis machines and essential consumables for health facilities nationwide.
Dr. Bampoe noted that the expansion aligns with the government’s broader strategy to increase access to critical healthcare services, aiming to include more renal patients under the NHIS coverage.
