Tamale, Ghana – A violent clash between two youth groups over a disputed piece of land in Tamale has resulted in three people being hospitalized with injuries.

The confrontation occurred in a busy business district of the Northern Region. Sources at the Tamale Teaching Hospital confirmed that several individuals with gunshot wounds were admitted on Tuesday morning.

The conflict began on Monday night when one group asserted their claim to the land, dismantling a cordon and construction materials at the site. The following morning, a rival group confronted them, escalating the dispute into a gun battle.

Eyewitnesses suggest the land dispute may involve influential figures within the New Patriotic Party, though clear ownership remains uncertain.

One eyewitness recounted, “Around 8 pm last night, a group claimed the land was for Samba and started taking it over. Another person argued it belonged to their brother. Instead of leaving, they destroyed the cordon and stayed overnight to guard the land.”

The standoff reignited the next morning, leading to the exchange of gunfire. Two individuals sustained gunshot wounds to their legs, while a third person was accidentally struck by a vehicle while attempting to take cover.

The Northern Regional Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
