The President of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA), Dr. Joseph Obeng, has expressed his approval of Finance Minister-designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s proposal to remove both the E-Levy and betting tax in the upcoming government budget, pending his confirmation.
Dr. Obeng stressed that currency stability is essential for the growth of businesses in Ghana.
He highlighted that the high cost of doing business in the country is further exacerbated by a multitude of taxes, ultimately leading to increased prices for goods and food items.
Dr. Obeng emphasized the need for significant tax reductions and more streamlined payment systems to allow businesses to thrive.
He remarked, “If Ato Forson removes these taxes, it will ease our burdens, lower costs, and improve manufacturing efforts. This is an issue we have raised time and again, and reducing these taxes would be a step in the right direction.”
Additionally, GUTA underscored the importance of a stable local currency as a critical factor in enhancing the business environment in Ghana.
