Haaland and Rodri Nominated For FIFA Men's Award

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Rodri are the only Premier League players nominated for the 2024 FIFA Best Men’s Player award.

The two players were recognized after helping Manchester City make history by becoming the first team in English top-flight history to win four consecutive league titles.

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, who also made the shortlist, is among the 11 nominees, which is dominated by players based in Spain. Lionel Messi, the 2023 winner, is the only player nominated this year who plays outside of Europe.

Rodri, the 2023 Ballon d’Or winner, is considered a top contender for the award, although he faces stiff competition from Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr, who was the runner-up in October’s Ballon d’Or voting. Bellingham, at just 21 years old, finished third in that voting and aims to become the first male English player to win the FIFA Best Men’s Player award.

The winner will be decided by an equal vote from fans, current national team captains and coaches, and media representatives.

Other nominees for the FIFA Best Men’s Coach award include Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Argentina’s Lionel Scaloni, and Spain’s Luis de la Fuente.

For the Goalkeeper of the Year award, nominees include Arsenal’s David Raya, Manchester City’s Ederson, and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, alongside other top goalkeepers such as Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin, Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, and Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon.
