In a recent address, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu underscored the importance of collective action in tackling barriers to education for marginalized groups in Ghana.
He called on the government, the private sector, and local communities to collaborate in order to ensure that every child has access to quality education.
Iddrisu highlighted the government’s dedication to improving education, particularly for girls, children, and persons with disabilities, who continue to face significant challenges in accessing educational opportunities.
He pointed out the persistent inequalities that hinder equitable access to education and stressed the need for a joint effort to overcome these obstacles.
Referring to the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child, Iddrisu reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to making education accessible to all, with an emphasis on access, quality, and relevance.
He also linked education to the broader goals of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), noting that education is key to achieving all 17 SDGs by 2030.
“Education is a transformative tool, and Ghana is dedicated to realizing this vision. However, breaking down the barriers to education will require strong partnerships among the government, the private sector, international organizations, and local communities,” Iddrisu concluded.
