President John Dramani Mahama has honored 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu for their heroic efforts in recovering the bodies of eight victims from the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
Representing President, National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah visited the community to express gratitude and deliver a support package on behalf of Mahama and the party.
The crash, which occurred in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve in the Adansi Akrofrom District, claimed the lives of eight high-ranking government officials. Among the deceased were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. The officials were reportedly on official duty at the time of the accident.
Addressing the residents on Wednesday, August 27, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah stated:
“The President has asked me to come and personally thank the residents who helped recover the bodies of our fallen men. In recognition of your bravery, the President is offering GHS100,000 to the rescuers and GHS20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council for final rites.”
In addition to the monetary donation, Mr. Nketiah announced that all 13 individuals involved in the recovery operation would be offered employment opportunities, based on their qualifications and skill sets.
He also conveyed President Mahama’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the area, including a pledge to rehabilitate local roads.
“President Mahama has assured the community that the road will be fixed,” Mr. Nketiah added.
The gesture has been widely praised as a meaningful recognition of the community’s courage and sacrifice in the face of a national tragedy.
