Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has officially taken the oath of office as the Speaker of Ghana’s 9th Parliament under the Fourth Republic.

The swearing-in ceremony, held on January 7, 2025, solidifies his legacy as a pivotal figure in the nation’s parliamentary history.

The proceedings commenced with Cassiel Ato Forson, the new Majority Leader, nominating Bagbin for the role. His motion was seconded by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, albeit with some reservations over the process. The Clerk of Parliament dismissed these concerns, ensuring the nomination progressed smoothly.

Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo administered the oath, officially confirming Bagbin’s re-election. In his acceptance speech, Bagbin called for unity and pledged impartiality in steering the affairs of a legislature dominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
