Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akufo Dampare has met with Asante Kotoko officials following the tragic stabbing of a fan during Sunday’s Ghana Premier League match at Nsoatreman FC.

Dampare, accompanied by senior police officials, held discussions with Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua I, chairman of Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee, and Kwasi Appiah, the club’s head of sporting affairs.

The meeting was not part of the official investigation into the death of Francis Frimpong, the Kotoko supporter who was fatally stabbed during the match.

However, Dr. Dampare personally reached out to Frimpong’s family to offer condolences and reassure them of a thorough investigation. He also promised Kotoko officials that the perpetrators would be brought to justice, with the full force of the law applied.

As of now, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the stabbing: former employment and labor relations minister Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph.

During the investigation, police discovered bloodstains and a loaded pistol at Owusu’s home, raising concerns about growing violence at football matches.

The 1-0 defeat of Kotoko to Nsoatreman was marred by violence, including an on-pitch brawl. In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged ten players—four from Kotoko and six from Nsoatreman—for their roles in the altercation.

Among those facing disciplinary action are Kotoko’s Mohammed Camara and Justice Blay, alongside Nsoatreman’s Stephen Diyou and Abdul Rahaman Mohammed, all for unsporting behavior.
