Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-level security delegation to the Savannah Region following violent communal clashes that left at least five people dead and several others injured.
The Ghana Police Service announced that the delegation from the National Police Headquarters will meet with traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and community stakeholders to discuss immediate and long-term strategies to restore peace in the affected areas.
The visit is part of a broader initiative to strengthen security in communities including Sawla, Gbiniyiri, and Giniri, where tensions remain high.
In a statement, the Police Service urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the security teams on the ground.
“We urge all parties to remain calm and work with the security teams to ensure lasting peace in the area,” the statement read.
The clashes broke out on Sunday, August 24, in Gbiniyiri, reportedly triggered by a land dispute. At least five people were confirmed dead, while six others sustained injuries—three of whom are in critical condition.
Reinforcement teams comprising personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies have already been deployed to stabilize the situation and prevent further violence.
