University of Ghana sports psychology lecturer, Dr. Collins Agyemang Badu, is advocating for significant investment in sports psychology in Ghana, highlighting the growing global trend in this area.
In an interview with Citi Sports, Dr. Badu emphasized the increased pressure on modern athletes due to the heightened commercialism of sports.
He commended the hiring of a sports psychologist for Ghana’s Black Stars and stressed the necessity for broader investment in the field.
“Sports, now more than ever… is a business, is highly commercialized and so there is a lot of investment that goes into sports. You realize that countries, individuals invest so much as far as their performance levels,” Dr. Badu stated, underscoring the importance of psychological support in achieving peak athletic performance.
He urged Ghana to follow the lead of other nations that are heavily investing in sports psychology to enhance their athletes’ capabilities.
