The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi is urgently requesting the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWL) to establish a dedicated water supply line to the facility, following ten days of severe water disruptions that are critically impacting hospital operations.

In a statement released on March 27th, KATH management detailed the strain caused by the prolonged water shortage, despite utilizing water tankers from various sources, including the Fire Service and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. The hospital’s vast size, serving thousands of staff, students, patients, and visitors daily, renders these temporary measures insufficient.

While the Minister of Health and the Ashanti Regional Minister are working to increase tanker deliveries, and GWL plans to reroute supply, KATH emphasizes that a long-term solution is essential. They are specifically calling for a dedicated water line, as the current shared line with other areas in Kumasi has proven unreliable.

KATH also requested the expansion of its main reservoir to enhance water security during future supply issues. Management remains hopeful that the interim measures will provide some relief but stresses the critical need for a dedicated water line to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
