Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is set to embark on a new chapter in his career. The Guinean international will join Hungarian club Ferencvaros on loan from Werder Bremen in January.

Keita’s time at Werder Bremen was marred by controversy. He was suspended in April after refusing to travel with the team for a match against Bayer Leverkusen.

“We are pleased to have found a solution, together with Naby and his agent,” said Clemens Fritz, Werder Bremen’s managing director for sport. “For us, it was clear that Naby would not play for Werder again. As such, the loan deal is the right move both for us and for him. We wish Naby all the best in Hungary.”

Before his stint in Germany, Keita enjoyed a successful period at Liverpool, winning numerous trophies, including the Champions League and the Premier League. However, his time at Werder Bremen has been far from ideal.

Ferencvaros has secured an option to buy Keita at the end of the loan period, indicating their interest in potentially making the move permanent.
