Former Assin Central MP and 2024 presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has issued a firm warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP): put aside internal divisions or face an extended stay in opposition.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the EOCO forecourt in Accra, Agyapong expressed deep concern over the party’s persistent internal wrangling and public infighting, which he believes are severely undermining NPP’s chances in the 2028 general elections.

“I’ve seen disturbing videos involving Alex Tetteh and a former Fomena Chairman,” Agyapong said. “This is not the time for finger-pointing or settling personal scores. If we want to return to power, we must come together as a united front.”

Agyapong urged the NPP to take a cue from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing the party’s consistent internal support—even in difficult times. He specifically referenced how NDC MPs demonstrated solidarity with their Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, during his legal proceedings, wearing red and accompanying him to court as a show of unity.

“The NDC supports its own, regardless of the circumstances. That’s what loyalty looks like,” Agyapong said. “Meanwhile, the NPP is bogged down by infighting. If we don’t learn from their example, we’ll find ourselves stuck in opposition far longer than anticipated.”

His comments come in the wake of a controversial video in which Alex Kwaku Tetteh, a former member of Agyapong’s own campaign team, is seen admitting to passing information that allegedly led to the arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The incident has intensified fears within the party about internal sabotage and the erosion of trust among its ranks.

Agyapong’s remarks underscore broader concerns about the NPP’s ability to regroup following its 2024 electoral defeat. Many believe that unless the party addresses internal rifts and rebuilds cohesion, its prospects for a political comeback in 2028 will remain uncertain.
