The Paramount Chief of Keta, Togbui James Ocloo V, has expressed frustration over the lack of progress on the Keta Port project, which was initially promised by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Despite the commencement of the project in 2019 and the appointment of a project director, development has stalled, with office buildings remaining at the foundation stage even after years of assurances.

In an interview, Togbui Ocloo V criticized the former president for not making substantial progress on the project and called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize its completion. The chief stressed that the port is vital for generating jobs and fostering economic growth in the Keta area.

He recalled the earlier commitment made by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who initiated plans for a mini fishing port in the region, but lamented that the project failed to materialize under subsequent administrations.

“We waited and waited, but nothing was done after that government left office,” Togbui Ocloo V said. “We have engaged with government officials in meetings and workshops, and while some progress has been made recently, my expectations were higher. The community was hoping for more visible developments by now.”

The Keta community remains hopeful that the new administration will focus on delivering the port project, which is seen as a key driver for economic development in the area.
