Police have arrested Daniel Tuffuor, a 21-year-old final-year student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in connection with the death of his alleged girlfriend, Joana Deladem Yabani.

Yabani, also a final-year student in Biological Sciences, was found dead near the university’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre on February 27, 2025, by campus security personnel.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, confirmed that Tuffuor was identified through campus CCTV footage and is currently assisting with the investigation.

“The suspect was captured on surveillance cameras, and he is currently assisting with investigations,” DCOP Cudjoe stated.

In response to the incident, police have increased security on campus, implementing 24-hour surveillance and patrols.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has also assured KNUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Rita Akosua Dickson of heightened security measures.

Professor Dickson expressed her grief over the “heartbreaking” incident, stating, “Waking up to such tragic news is heartbreaking. Losing a student this way is deeply painful, particularly for the parents. We appreciate the IGP’s swift response and the security measures in place.”

Police have pledged a thorough investigation to bring justice to Yabani and her family.
