Residents of a three-unit semi-detached building in Two Streams, a suburb of Koforidua, are accusing personnel from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) of causing a fire outbreak after disconnecting their power supply.
The incident occurred after ECG personnel, accompanied by police, disconnected the building’s power supply due to an alleged illegal connection. Despite pleas from residents to settle their debts, the disconnection proceeded.
Shortly after the ECG personnel left the area, residents noticed smoke emanating from one of the units. Two fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, but the fire caused significant damage to the building and its contents.
Princewill Anale, a resident who lost all his belongings, including his passport and certificates, is demanding a thorough investigation into the incident. “I am demanding justice,” he stated.
Citizen Tetteh, the Assembly Man for the Two Streams Electoral Area, has announced plans to file a formal complaint with the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) on behalf of the affected residents.
D02 Dominic Agyapong, Commander of the New Juaben North Municipal Fire Service, confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
