Kumasi, Ghana – Nana Akwasi Apinkra Awuah, Chairman of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), has urged fans to remain calm and trust the legal process following the tragic death of supporter Francis Frimpong (Nana Pooley).

Pooley was fatally stabbed during a match against Nsoatreman, prompting widespread grief and calls for justice.

A vigil was held at Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, where Awuah addressed mourners, assuring them that the investigation is being handled at the highest levels, with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) directly involved.

“It’s been a week since Pooley’s passing, and the matter is with national security. The IGP has assured us of his commitment, and we are satisfied with the progress made so far,” Awuah stated.

He cautioned against spreading rumors or taking matters into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of allowing the police to conduct their investigation. “I urge everyone not to act on rumors or take matters into their own hands. Let’s trust the law to deliver justice. I promise you this case will not go unresolved,” he affirmed. Awuah also encouraged anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Kotoko Secretariat.

Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the stabbing, with two, including former Sunyani West MP Ignatius Baffour Awuah, released on bail.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is also addressing the tragedy by working with Premier League clubs and fans to improve safety measures and prevent future incidents.
