Kumasi, Ghana – Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkrah, has stated that the club will not resume Ghana Premier League (GPL) participation until the Ghana Football Association (GFA) meets their demands for enhanced security measures.
Kotoko and Hearts of Oak jointly submitted a proposal to the GFA on Monday, outlining measures to combat hooliganism and improve security at match venues.
This proposal followed the tragic death of a Kotoko fan, “Nana Pooley,” who was fatally stabbed.
Following a meeting with the GFA, Nana Apinkrah expressed his dissatisfaction with the FA’s response to their requests. “We know we [Hearts and Kotoko] don’t matter to the GFA,” he said. “But now, whether you like it or not, you will respect us. We will show you we are Kotoko and Hearts.” He added emphatically, “We are not returning to football until all our requests regarding the new security measures are granted.”
This ultimatum comes amidst ongoing discussions about improving security at league venues, a key demand from both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. The GFA has yet to respond to the club’s ultimatum.
