Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III criticizes Akufo-Addo’s leadership, expressing hope for a brighter future under President Mahama

The Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has passionately expressed his desire for Ghana to never experience another presidency like that of Nana Akufo-Addo, citing widespread corruption and poor governance as defining features of his administration.

In an interview with the press, Nana Abodade III lamented the many challenges the country has faced under Akufo-Addo’s leadership, including rampant corruption and government underperformance. He described the current state of the nation as one that has been “stripped naked,” in urgent need of restoration, referencing the biblical story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:29.

With only a week left in Akufo-Addo’s tenure, the Krontihene expressed relief that the current presidency was coming to an end. He further pointed out that many traditional leaders were also relieved by the nearing conclusion of Akufo-Addo’s rule, feeling disrespected by his leadership style.

“A lot of chiefs are happy. A good friend of mine, who is also a chief, said, ‘Let’s see if he [Akufo-Addo] will now go around and instruct chiefs to stand up and greet him,’” Nana Abodade III said, alluding to the strained relationship between the president and traditional leaders.

Reflecting on the opportunities lost during Akufo-Addo’s presidency, Nana Abodade III concluded by praying for a future where Ghana is led by a more capable, respectful, and accountable president, one who will truly serve the country’s best interests.
