Former NPP General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has rolled out what he calls his “Big Plan,” a sweeping vision to transform land ownership into a source of wealth and empowerment for Ghanaians.
Speaking at the filing of his nomination forms, Agyepong described land as the country’s most overlooked resource and blamed decades of mismanagement for leaving citizens dispossessed while enriching foreign corporations and corrupt political elites.
“Nearly seven decades of lost opportunities have placed money in the hands of foreign interests, corrupt politicians and their cronies, while sidelining the very landowners whose sacrifices built this nation,” he said.
At the heart of his plan is a push to redefine land as active capital. He argued that when properly valued and protected, land can give ordinary people from farmers to urban households access to credit, education, healthcare, and new economic opportunities.
Agyepong was particularly critical of the country’s mining concessions, which he said have left local communities with poisoned rivers and barren farmlands. “Our youth have watched their dreams buried beneath the rubble of mining operations that promised prosperity but delivered only despair,” he declared.
His proposals include reforming land tenure laws, creating transparent compensation systems, setting up youth led oversight councils in mining districts, and rolling out civic education on environmental protection.
In a rare move for a political figure, Agyepong issued a public apology to families, chiefs, and communities whose lands were taken without consent.
“To every family whose land has been taken without consent, to every chief and community leader ignored, to every youth whose future was stolen by negligence and greed , I say, we are sorry.
This apology is not the end. It is the beginning,” he said.
