Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a £40 million deal.
The 21-year-old Hungary international will become the latest addition to the Premier League champions’ squad, following a standout season with the Cherries in which he played every league match and helped them to a club-record ninth-place finish.
Kerkez’s departure from Bournemouth comes as the south coast club move quickly to replace him, signing Adrien Truffert from Rennes.
The move reunites Kerkez with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who brought him to Bournemouth in 2023. His arrival at Anfield follows Liverpool’s aggressive summer activity, including a £116 million deal nearing completion for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz and the confirmed signing of Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5 million.
Born in Serbia, Kerkez began his professional career at Hungarian side Gyor before a stint at AC Milan, where he didn’t make a senior appearance. He then moved to AZ Alkmaar in January 2022, where he thrived—scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 52 matches during the 2022–23 season as AZ finished fourth in the Eredivisie and reached the Europa Conference League semi-finals.
Kerkez joined Bournemouth in the summer of 2023, playing a key role in their historic top-half finish last season with two goals and six assists.
Capped 23 times by Hungary, he will link up with national teammate Dominik Szoboszlai at Liverpool.
Kerkez’s arrival raises questions about Liverpool’s current left-back options. While the club hopes to retain Andy Robertson, who is reportedly attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, they are open to offers for back-up Kostas Tsimikas. However, Robertson, now 31, may also consider leaving in search of more consistent playing time.
