Hugo Ekitike joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Paris St-Germain in February 2024

Liverpool have secured the signing of French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial fee of £69 million, with the deal potentially rising to £79 million through add-ons. The transfer is subject to international clearance.

The 23-year-old has successfully passed his medical and agreed to personal terms with the Premier League club. He is expected to link up with Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia later this week.

Rising Star Joins Anfield

Ekitike enjoyed a breakout season in the Bundesliga, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 31 starts as Frankfurt secured a third-place finish. He also led the league in total shots with 117, highlighting his attacking intent and creativity.

Only five players in the German top flight scored more than the French forward last season, further cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers.

“Hugo has developed tremendously in his one and a half years with us and has been a true asset to our team and the entire club both on and off the pitch,” said Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche.

“We are delighted that he can now take the next step – a step he has earned through his performances with us.”

Liverpool’s Transfer Spree Continues

Ekitike’s arrival pushes Liverpool’s summer spending past £250 million, with the club already making headlines after landing Florian Wirtz for a potential British record £116 million. Defenders Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong were also brought in for a combined £70 million.

Liverpool reportedly fended off stiff competition for Ekitike’s signature. Newcastle United had a £70 million bid rejected earlier this month, and the Reds were also linked with interest in Magpies striker Alexander Isak.

Ekitike joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain in February 2024, and his rise has been rapid ever since.
