Kofi Akpaloo, the flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reprint the presidential ballot papers for the 2024 elections due to concerns about the inclusion of the late Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, Akua Donkor.
Akpaloo argues that her presence on the ballot could influence the election results. He pointed out that if a new candidate had been approved for the GFP, the EC would have reprinted the ballots accordingly.
At a press conference on November 13, he stressed that reprinting the ballots is essential to maintain the integrity of the election and avoid voter confusion.
“Having a ballot paper with Akua Donkor’s image will create significant problems. Voters may mistakenly cast their ballots for her, despite knowing she is deceased, complicating the counting process,” he stated.
Akpaloo raised concerns about how votes for Donkor would be handled, asking, “Will those votes be removed from the count or included? We want to prevent any situation where a losing candidate disputes the results due to percentage discrepancies. Therefore, we urge the EC to issue new ballot papers without Akua Donkor’s picture.”
