La Luis Suarez, Uruguay’s star striker, has announced his retirement from international football.
In an emotional press conference, the 37-year-old confirmed that the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay will be his last match for Uruguay.
Suarez is Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer with 69 goals in 142 appearances and has played in nine major international tournaments, including four World Cups and five Copa America tournaments.
He led Uruguay to victory in the 2011 Copa America and was named Player of the Tournament.
Suarez will continue to play for Inter Miami at the club level.
