President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy initiative has officially transitioned from a campaign slogan into a fully developed national strategy aimed at boosting productivity and fostering inclusive economic growth.
Speaking at the official launch of the policy in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, President Mahama reflected on the concept’s rise to national prominence during the 2024 election cycle.
“In 2024, the idea of a 24-hour economy captured the national imagination. It became a slogan of hope and a symbol that meaningful change was both necessary and possible,” he said. “Today, we have moved from slogan to strategy.”
Mahama emphasized that the launch marks just the beginning of a broader national effort, and the true challenge lies in effective implementation.
“Our task now is to ensure that the change becomes reality through action. This launch is not the end—it is the beginning of a massive national mobilisation,” he noted.
Addressing public misconceptions, the President clarified that the 24-Hour Economy is not simply about longer workdays, but about unlocking productivity, increasing exports, and expanding economic opportunity through targeted, inclusive reforms.
“Let me be clear: the 24+ Agenda is not just about extending working hours. It’s about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, and accelerating exports through structured and inclusive interventions.”
The 24-Hour Economy is a central pillar of the Mahama administration’s economic agenda, with a focus on job creation, attracting investment, and enhancing Ghana’s global competitiveness.
