President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an eight-member committee to organize the upcoming National Education Forum, fulfilling his promise to enhance Ghana’s education system.
During his 2024 election campaign, Mahama committed to hosting a national forum to gather public input on how to improve education in the country, with a special focus on the Free SHS policy.
The committee has been given a two-week deadline to submit its report and plan for the forum.
The committee will be chaired by Professor George K. T. Oduro, former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. Other members include Professors Goski Alabi, Rosemary Bosu, Samuel Awuku, Ph.D., and Smile Dzisi, along with Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.
The committee’s terms of reference (TOR) outline several key objectives: developing a central theme, identifying stakeholders within the education sector, and creating a detailed agenda with time allocations. Additionally, the committee will be responsible for selecting a venue, setting a date, establishing a secretariat, and preparing a budget.
After the forum, the committee will compile a comprehensive report with findings and recommendations. A draft national education policy framework and action plan for implementing reforms are expected to be delivered within three weeks of the forum’s conclusion.
