John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for its alleged role in the decline of the Produce Buying Company (PBC), Ghana’s largest indigenous cocoa-buying firm.
Mahama pointed to PBC as a clear example of mismanagement, asserting that many Ghanaian businesses are facing similar challenges.
He highlighted the struggles of PBC workers, who have reportedly gone unpaid for 8 to 9 months with no indication of when they might receive their salaries.
These comments were made during a campaign event in Enchi Aowin, Western North Region, where Mahama emphasized, “In eight years, the economy has deteriorated. When I was president, PBC purchased 30 percent of Ghana’s cocoa; now it can no longer do so. This company has collapsed under this government, and the workers remain unpaid.”
