Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed concerns about the government’s flood prevention and management strategies in light of recent heavy rainfall in Accra and other regions.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Mahama noted that despite alleged significant investments in flood mitigation, many areas continue to experience substantial flooding even during minor rainfall.
He highlighted the need for effective drainage systems, including the Odaw River, and emphasized the importance of prioritizing flood prevention measures to safeguard citizens’ lives and property.
Mr. Mahama questioned the impact of the $200 million spent on the Greater Accra Resilient Integrated Development Programme (GARID) and the additional $150 million recently approved for the same program, stressing that responsible governance requires prioritizing citizens’ safety and well-being.
The rewritten script maintains the original message while adopting a more neutral tone, focusing on the concerns and questions raised by Mr. Mahama rather than using critical language.
