Former President John Mahama has firmly denied any involvement in the alleged attack on the convoy of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, in Techiman.
The incident occurred on Monday, December 2, 2024, when unknown individuals reportedly threw stones at the Asantehene’s motorcade as he returned from a funeral in Nkoranza, Bono East Region.
In a recent meeting with the Asantehene, Mahama dismissed the viral video that implicated him in orchestrating the attack, labeling it as “fake news” and attributing its creation to artificial intelligence (AI) manipulation. He further accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of orchestrating a deliberate smear campaign against him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mahama strongly refuted allegations that he had mobilized youth in Techiman to carry out the attack and recalled offering prayers for Otumfuo’s safety before his trip.
Accusing the Jubilee House of being behind the production and spread of the false video, Mahama suggested that the NPP, facing challenges in the election season, was resorting to such tactics in an attempt to damage his reputation.
“The NPP’s campaign has lost momentum, and now they are relying on lies. Nana, all these accusations are baseless,” Mahama stated, emphasizing that the claims against him had no merit.
