President John Dramani Mahama has launched the GoldBod Taskforce, a specialized unit dedicated to combating gold smuggling and corruption in Ghana’s extractive sector.
During the taskforce’s inauguration at the National Security Secretariat in Accra, President Mahama announced a significant incentive for whistleblowers, promising a 10% reward of the seized assets or their cash equivalent for credible information leading to successful recoveries.
The President emphasized that the taskforce’s establishment demonstrates his administration’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s natural resources.
The GoldBod Taskforce comprises personnel from the National Security, military, and other key security agencies, who have undergone rigorous training, vetting, and anti-corruption exercises to ensure professionalism and integrity.
To maintain transparency and accountability, the taskforce members will operate under strict oversight, wearing body cameras during operations and utilizing GPS-tracked vehicles monitored in real-time.
President Mahama assured that these measures will prevent misconduct and ensure the taskforce’s effectiveness in tackling gold smuggling and corruption.
