President John Mahama

A strong move towards transparency and a commitment to fighting corruption within government

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed all newly appointed government officials to declare their assets as part of his ongoing efforts to combat corruption and promote transparency in his administration.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for six new ministers at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, President Mahama made it clear that “business as usual” will no longer be tolerated. “I expect all of you to begin the process of declaring your assets,” Mahama said, adding that the Chief of Staff would soon set a deadline for all appointees to submit their asset declarations to the Auditor-General.

In his address, Mahama reiterated his commitment to tackling corruption by empowering anti-corruption agencies to investigate and address any misconduct within his government.

The President also called on his appointees to serve with humility and integrity, warning against arrogance and disrespect towards the people. “Ghanaians have spoken through their votes—they demand the highest standards of governance, and we cannot fail them,” he stressed.

Mahama further reminded his ministers of the immense responsibility they bear toward the Ghanaian people, urging them to govern with accountability, modesty, and prudence. “The people of Ghana will hold us accountable for the trust they have placed in our hands,” he concluded.
