President John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to urgently address the $156 million funding gap caused by the suspension of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programme.

A statement from the Presidency on February 11 emphasized Mahama’s concern over the financial shortfall, warning of its significant impact on essential health and social programs.

The most pressing issue is a $78.2 million deficit that threatens critical services such as malaria prevention, maternal and child healthcare, family planning, reproductive health, and nutrition.

Additionally, the shortfall endangers Ghana’s efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, limiting access to antiretroviral drugs, testing, and prevention measures.

To avoid disruptions in these vital services, President Mahama has directed the Finance Ministry to prioritize urgent funding interventions and develop immediate solutions to bridge the gap.
